Mutxamel is a municipality in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community, with just over 22,500 inhabitants. Situated at barely 70 meters above sea level, it extends across the fertile Huerta de Alicante plain, a few kilometers north of the provincial capital. Its territory borders Alicante and is integrated into the metropolitan area of the city, although it retains a distinctly agricultural and residential character.
On August 12, 2026, Mutxamel will experience a partial solar eclipse with its maximum occurring at 20:34, local time. At that moment, the Sun will be just 4.1° above the horizon with an azimuth of 286°, almost due west-northwest. The difference of 2.5° between the solar altitude and the topographic horizon is enough for the eclipse to be visible, although it is essential to have a clear horizon in that direction.
August in Mutxamel is hot and sunny, as reflected in data from the AEMET station for the period 1991-2020. The average temperature hovers around 26.5 °C, with highs reaching 31 °C. The month accumulates over 319 hours of sunshine and the probability of clear skies sits around 77 %, offering good prospects for eclipse observation. Precipitation is scarce—less than 14 mm on average—although there is a moderate risk of afternoon thunderstorms.
The last total eclipse visible from Mutxamel dates back to May 28, 1900, 126 years ago, with a totality of just over one minute. More recently, on October 3, 2005, the region observed an annular eclipse with an obscuration of 90 % and an annular phase of nearly three minutes and fifteen seconds. The next annular eclipse after 2028 will not arrive until July 13, 2075.
At the moment of maximum eclipse, the Sun will be 4.1° in altitude and pointing west-northwest, with an azimuth of 286°. This is equivalent to looking slightly north of due west. Given that the Sun will be so close to the horizon, it is advisable to find an elevated observation point or with clear views toward that sector of the sky to prevent buildings, trees, or other obstacles from blocking the view.

A solar eclipse is described by four key moments, the contact points between the discs of the Sun and the Moon:
Where the eclipse is only partial, the Moon never fully covers the Sun: only C1 and C4 occur, with no totality in between.

Yes, partial eclipse: the Sun will be 99% covered at maximum from Mutxamel.
Maximum occurs at 20:34 local time (18:34 UTC) in Mutxamel.
Look WNW (azimuth 286°); the Sun will be 4° above the horizon at maximum from Mutxamel.
Mutxamel is a good option (score 70/100): all eclipse phases are visible, though not the regional optimum.
Yes, you need ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses during every partial phase. Regular sunglasses do NOT protect. Glasses can only be removed during the totality phase (when the Sun is fully covered); never during annular or partial eclipses. Pages flagged "visible" assume a clear horizon, not a viewing recommendation.
For the August 12 eclipse. Recommended stay: Aug 10–14, 2026.
