Montcada i Reixac is a municipality in the province of Barcelona, in Catalonia, with just over 33,400 inhabitants. It is located 66 meters above sea level, in the corridor connecting Barcelona's metropolitan area with the Vallès Occidental region. Bordering the Catalan capital to the north, it combines residential areas with industrial activity and is part of Barcelona's inner metropolitan ring.
On 12 August 2026, Montcada i Reixac will experience a partial solar eclipse with its maximum at 20:28 hours. At that moment, the Sun will be only 4 degrees above the horizon, oriented towards the west-northwest (azimuth 286°). With a margin of 3.3 degrees above the surrounding terrain profile, the eclipse will be perfectly visible from locations with clear skies in that direction. The Sun's low altitude requires choosing a site without obstacles towards the west-northwest.
August is the warmest month in Montcada i Reixac. Average temperature hovers around 24 °C, with typical highs near 30 °C and lows rarely dropping below 18 °C. The risk of thunderstorms during August is low according to AEMET data for the period 1991–2020, pointing to favourable meteorological conditions for eclipse observation at the end of summer.
The last total eclipse over Montcada i Reixac occurred on 12 May 1706, 320 years ago, with a totality phase of just under four minutes. The most recent annular eclipse dates to 11 November 1901, when 82 % of the solar disk was covered for about five minutes. After the eclipses of 2026 and 2028, one will have to wait until 13 July 2075 for the next annular eclipse from this municipality.
At the moment of maximum eclipse, at 20:28 hours, the Sun will be 4 degrees above the horizon and oriented towards the west-northwest, with an azimuth of 286°, some 16 degrees north of due west. This position so close to the horizon means that any obstacle in that direction—buildings, trees or landforms—could interfere with observation. To follow the eclipse from beginning to end, it is advisable to find an open location with clear visibility towards the west-northwest.

A solar eclipse is described by four key moments, the contact points between the discs of the Sun and the Moon:
Where the eclipse is only partial, the Moon never fully covers the Sun: only C1 and C4 occur, with no totality in between.

Yes, you need ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses during every partial phase. Regular sunglasses do NOT protect. Glasses can only be removed during the totality phase (when the Sun is fully covered); never during annular or partial eclipses. Pages flagged "visible" assume a clear horizon, not a viewing recommendation.
For the August 12 eclipse. Recommended stay: Aug 10–14, 2026.
