Barberà del Vallès is a municipality in the province of Barcelona, in the heart of the Vallès Occidental, autonomous community of Catalonia. With just over 31,000 inhabitants and an altitude of 144 meters above sea level, it spreads across the plain of the Ripoll river, nestled between the Collserola mountains and the Serralada Prelitoral. Its metropolitan position, less than 20 kilometers from Barcelona, grants it a consolidated urban environment surrounded by hills.
On August 12, 2026, Barberà del Vallès will experience a partial solar eclipse with maximum predicted at 20:28, local time. At that moment the Sun will be just 4 degrees above the horizon, toward the west-northwest (azimuth 286°), making it essential to have a completely clear line of sight in that direction. The clearance with respect to the topographic horizon is 3.1 degrees: sufficient to see the phenomenon if there are no immediate obstacles.
In August, Barberà del Vallès enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, with an average temperature of 24.2 °C, highs around 30 °C during the day and lows that rarely fall below 18 °C at night. The risk of storms in this month is low, which favors stable conditions for afternoon observation. Data: AEMET, station 0229I, period 1991–2020.
The last total eclipse visible from Barberà del Vallès dates back to May 12, 1706, more than three centuries ago, when totality lasted just under four minutes. In November 1901, an annular eclipse occurred with an obscuration of 82 %, also visible from the municipality. After the eclipses of 2026, 2027 and 2028, the next notable annular eclipse over this area will not arrive until July 13, 2075.
At the moment of maximum phase, at 20:28, the Sun will be in an almost grazing position to the horizon, 4 degrees high and with an azimuth of 286 degrees: west-northwest direction. To observe it without interference it is advisable to position yourself at an elevated or open point with the horizon clear toward the west, since any building or trees in that direction could obstruct the view during the critical minutes.

A solar eclipse is described by four key moments, the contact points between the discs of the Sun and the Moon:
Where the eclipse is only partial, the Moon never fully covers the Sun: only C1 and C4 occur, with no totality in between.

Yes, you need ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses during every partial phase. Regular sunglasses do NOT protect. Glasses can only be removed during the totality phase (when the Sun is fully covered); never during annular or partial eclipses. Pages flagged "visible" assume a clear horizon, not a viewing recommendation.
